Schaeuble As Merkel’s Dr. No Holds Coalition Purse Strings (1)

She offered her absolute support for Gabriels energy proposals, saying the shift to renewables is a project shared by the entire government. One Government This is one government, comprising three parties, but one government, said Merkel. Each individual minister has a project thats a project for the whole government. That shared goal was put in doubt when the SPD families minister, Manuela Schwesig, who at 39 is the youngest cabinet member, told the Tagesspiegel newspaper Jan. 9 that the working week for parents should be cut to 32 hours from 40 hours and that taxpayers should make up some of the loss in income. While Schwesigs proposal was dismissed by Merkels spokesman, Steffen Seibert, as a personal contribution to the debate, it set the stage for more SPD attacks on Schaeubles fiscal discipline. On CNN last night, former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli suggested that Christie quit as head of the Republican Governors Association. It was easy, perhaps, to write that off as the bitterness of a defeated candidate, one for whom Christie never found time to campaign in his Click Here close 2013 race. But yesterday, when I was talking to Republicans, I heard the same concern, totally independent of personal affinities. Katon Dawson, the former South Carolina GOP chairman, wondered whether Christie's problems could trickle down to governors or candidates. That would be unacceptable. "To most folks in my profession, its governorships we pay attention to," said Dawson. "This all has the potential to affect the RGA and governor's races if it grows any more legs, like it has with the Hoboken mayor. Mark Sanford is a guy who resigned and didnt want any of his scandal embroiled around the RGA. Now, nobodys called for that from Christie. <br>More: http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2014/01/22/chris_christie_can_come_back_right_after_he_quits_as_rga_chair.html
